Growing up in Canada and traveling to our Ontario North, The
Inukshuk (pronounced IN-OOK-SHOOK) became an
intriguing symbol to me. Seeing the balanced rock formations
creating an image of man (the meaning of Inukshuk) was
fascinating. What did it symbolize? Did others have an interest
in this Inuit symbol? I wanted to build one! I was finally
successful in creating my own Inukshuk using random rocks
available to me.
I began to research the Inuit people using the internet and
became even more enamored with the Inukshuk. The Inuit are
aboriginal inhabitants of the North American Arctic. For
hundreds of years Inukshuks were created by the Inuit as
navigational guides and stood 7’–12’ in height!
I then discovered that the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada
had adopted the Inukshuk as their symbol. It is an appropriate
choice as the Inukshuk has come to symbolize Canadian friendship
and mutual dependence. I wanted to create a product that
respected both the Inuit culture as well as the environment. The
rocks chosen are from the Canadian Shield, the oldest rock
formation on the planet. It covers over 4.8 billion square
kilometers.
I am proud to introduce Inukshuk In A Sack. Handsomely packaged
in an all natural jute sack with a leather mat, Inukshuk In A
Sack can be a great educational tool/puzzle for older children
and adults. The challenge of creating and recreating your own
Inukshuk can bring a sense of achievement. The focus required
can be both calming and relieve stress. Creating an Inukshuk as
a group can reinforce team building, problem solving and
cooperation.
Inukshuk In A Sack is a wonderful new Canadian souvenir, gift or
corporate incentive promotional item. Go to our ‘gallery’ page
for instructions on how to send us photos of Inukshuks that you
create from your Inukshuk In A Sack. You can also go to our
‘hints/tips’ page for suggestions when creating your Inukshuk.
Have fun and enjoy!
And yes, WE ARE PROUD TO BE CANADIAN!!
